Lord was not to be followed here, or they may have been unaware of their error. Ignorance was not excused because they held a leadership position that required more of them. By priestly example the people would learn about the holy demands of the Lord. The same is true of Christian leaders, whether in the home or the church, who are required to be blameless examples of godly living (Titus 1:6, 7).
